The Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria (HURIWA) has asked Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso to arrange the January 30 rally being organized by the Kwankwasiyya Movement in Kano.
National Coordinator of the group, Emmanuel Onwubiko in a statement yesterday feared the prospect of possible loss of lives in the event that the supporters of Governor Abdullahi Ganduje and those of Kwankwaso clashed at the proposed political rally.
The statement came against the backdrop of last weekend’s clash between the supporters of Ganduje and Kwankwaso.
The rights group said that it was politically suicidal to permit all kinds of political tendencies to foment trouble.
The group said that it was unwise to proceed with a politically charged rally by the Kwankwasiyya since it was not legally registered to participate in the coming state - wide local council polls in Kano State, just as the campaign period for the 2019 general elections could only begin in August.
